If you haven’t already registered for the San Francisco ROFLThing end of August, you best do so soon. We’re lining up a pretty sweet group of speakers and special guests for you guys to chatter and mingle with, so act now while supplies last.

Along those lines, Sean Savage, blogger extraordinaire and coiner of the phrase “flash mob” to describe these weird internet organized clusters of people doing weird things way back in the day (and by back in the day, I mean 2003, which is like going back to Mesopotamia in internet time), has just let us know that he’ll be attending said event. Maybe we’ll get lucky and Sean will establish a new phrase to describe what’s been going down since that fateful April weekend.

Confidential to the uninitiated: don’t know what a flash mob is? CHECK IT.

After a few days of hard work getting stuff together, there’s nothing quite like ending the week on a good note: met with Noam from SF area start-up episodic for coffee and I’m happy to announce they’re teaming up with us to sponsor the open bar @ SF-ROFLThing! This is mostly because Noam and his crew are amazing, amazing people.

Episodic is in the business of building a platform for video production. They’re still in private beta that you can sign up for (though with this slick iPhone app openly available), but from everything that they’re telling me, some of the analytics/tools they’re working on for analytics, monetization, and syndication are generally going to kickass when they get rolled out (and hell, they’re Creative Commons enabled to boot).

Apologies too, while the blog’s been inconsistently updated this week, I’ve been running around and working the phone lines to see if we can’t get a few more big web celebs to come for the event. I can’t announce who they are yet (beyond the one you know we’re trying to get), but the good news is that it looks like they’re interested — we’ve just got to sort out the details. Be prepared for a couple of cool announces as we move into next week.

Just got word today that Dino Ignacio, the original creator of the Bert Is Evil site from the late 90s that later raged into an international incident, will be attending SF-ROFLThing! Dino pretty much kicked ass at the original conference and he’ll be hanging around at the event in August.

Like in April, we’re putting out an open call to all internet famous superstars out there that they can get free admission if they want to turn up. E-mail tim AT roflcon.org for the details.

Also, registrations are moving fast, so get in today.

Laughing Squid Has Arrived

Have been trading e-mails back and forth with Scott Beale and I’m pretty excited to announce today that there’s good news today that our friends at the combination hosting company/art+culture+tech blog Laughing Squid will be sallying forth with us again to bring the internet culture craziness to San Francisco. Stay tuned: they’re coming on board to sponsor SF-ROFLThing!

Beyond being generally awesome folks, they’ve been helping us out as we find our way in the Big City, and we’re super happy to be working with them. As I mentioned the first time: totally, totally sweet.
